Dozens of people volunteers gathered in Long Island City, Queens this weekend to assemble 700 care kits for homeless New Yorkers living on the street this winter.

Each packet included essential items like a wool blanket, thermal gloves, toiletries and a snack.

The event was organized by the group Here's Life Inner City.

"This is probably the first time I've done this, and I think I'll do this again. It's been a really great experience seeing families come out and people from different churches come together," said volunteer Esther Baek.

"I'm so grateful to them because it's because of them that I was able to receive during my own hard times, you know, going through my own struggles. And now I'm in a position where I'm able to give back and participate, so I can help others in need," said volunteer Jimmy Badillo.

The kits will be distributed to neighborhood churches, which will then hand them out to the homeless.
